In Japan, as the seasons pass, one can notice many changes taking place throughout nature. Grand Seiko seeks to capture the essence of these changes through evocative dials made in-house.
The snow-white dial of SBGX355 is meant to suggest the serendipitous beauty of nature in the area near the Shinshu Watch Studio where it is made. Brought to life through master craftsmanship, it presents a detailed pattern not unlike the one traced across the snow by the wind in the Hotaka peaks in winter. The steel seconds hand, tempered to a vivid shade of blue, creates a beautiful contrast as it rounds the pure white dial. The 37mm case and the bracelet are crafted from High-Intensity Titanium, which is even more resistant to abrasion than regular titanium and wears ethereally light on the wrist.

Visible from the Shinshu Watch Studio, where Grand Seiko’s Spring Drive and quartz watches are made, the Hotaka mountain range is blanketed with snow for several months each winter. The snow in these mountains is shaped by fierce winds that carve patterns into its surface, a phenomenon that forms this watch’s “Snowflake” pattern dial. Formed through master craftsmanship, the dial is achieved not by a simple white coating, but rather by a special process that uses silver plating to create its refined appearance. The dial’s uncanny pure-white likeness is created without the use of any white materials or pigments.
Calibre 9F62
The quartz Calibre 9F62 incorporates mechanisms not commonly seen in standard quartz movements, such as a regulation switch for precise adjustments during after-sales service. A quarter-century after this movement made its appearance, the 9F62 continues to win admirers thanks to its high performance, annual accuracy of ±10 seconds, and robust construction. Equipped with a battery that lasts for approximately three years, the movement features a display of the date in addition to the time.
