Most winters, the water of Lake Suwa freezes over and, most years, a long ridge appears in the ice from one side of the lake to the other. Tradition has it that this is the Omiwatari, or where the gods walk out over the ice.
True or not, the legend has inspired the craftspeople of the nearby Shinshu Watch Studio to create a dial of exquisite subtlety for this hand-winding Spring Drive timepiece. It has the colour, feel, and texture of ruptured ice on the surface of Lake Suwa.
The movement powering this watch is the Spring Drive Calibre 9R31, which uses the Dual Spring Barrel to deliver a power reserve of 72 hours when fully wound. Its exquisite finishing is visible through the exhibition case-back, along with the power reserve indicator.

A dial capturing a natural phenomenon observed on Lake Suwa during the frigid cold of winter
This design draws inspiration from the “Omiwatari,” a mysterious winter phenomenon that occurs when Lake Suwa, located near the Shinshu Watch Studio, the home of the Spring Drive watches, freezes completely. The dial evokes the raised ridges that form on the frozen lake’s surface, while the tempered blue seconds hand glides smoothly across it.
A dress design with a refined elegance and striking definition
The watch’s form was created specifically to house a slim movement. Flexibility and tension combine, allowing light to play across a subtle ridgeline. Thanks to Zaratsu polishing, its elegant surface is reminiscent of a polished jewel. The sapphire glass features a unique domed shape that effectively uses the refractive properties of light, adding a refined nuance to the dial.
